Bad Credit Card Offers Types
10/31/2007 | Understanding Credit Cards
We live in the world of credit, which means you can buy what you want now and pay later. Isn't it amazing? Sounds wonderful - but in reality lots of people have lots of problems with their cards. Therefore, credit card companies try to make all kinds of bad credit cards available so that customers can use credit services and rebuild their spoiled histories.
Bad credit cards play a very important role, especially for the cardholders. It is often near to impossible to book a hotel or rent a car without a plastic. Moreover, your check might not even be accepted with a card along with it. Now I will try to tell you what a cardholder needs to know about bad credit cards.
Major credit companies offer bad credit card deals: MasterCard, Visa, Capital One, First PREMIER. One may select from different bad credit cards: prepaid, secured or unsecured.
Prepaid credit card is very similar to a debit card. You simply will need to open an account and send your deposit to the bank-issuer. Actually, the bank is not issuing any credit. The money for every purchase that is made with a plastic are debited from the account you deposited. When there is no money on your account you just won't be able to use your card. Certainly, until you deposit more. Making purchases with this kind of card doesn't require making monthly payments because actually you are using your own money. This kind of card is not used for booking a room or renting a car as well as not used for credit rebuilding since no credit is given and banks do not report to any credit agencies.
Some people don't like the very idea of having credit cards at all. These people just don't like the fact that every single day they will keep thinking about repaying their credit debt. Prepaid credit cards are just ideal for them.
Secured credit cards are plastics that are secured by the collateral - i.e. a sum of money deposited to the savings account. These cards are very similar to the usual credit cards. The amount of money that you deposited defines your credit limit. So, in case of the failure to repay the debt, the bank will simply take the money from your deposit. Usually fees and interest rates are higher for these cards. It is important that with these secured cards you can rebuild your history as long as the bank-issuer reports to the credit bureaus.
One of my friends was trying to rebuild his extremely bad credit history by applying for a secured credit card. He didn't succeed because he never checked if the bank was actually sending the information to the agencies. The sad thing that the bank didn't do that. Thus, my friend's efforts were useless. Hopefully, now he has successfully overcome all the financial burdens.
There is one more type of credit cards I would like to elaborate on a bit - unsecured credit cards. Remember, we are talking about bad unsecured credit cards. These cards' initial credit is typically low, about $300. As for fees and interests rates, they are much higher than that of the market rates. The interest can amount to 25% and fees to more than $100!
Unsecured credit cards do help in overcoming bad credit history since the information is reported to the agencies. Still you better check if the banks are providing the reporting.
All in all bad credit card deals can certainly help. You just need to apply for a good one.

you seem to be disclaiming everything that banks used to offer as the best options. (secured credit card for example) moreover, too many banks are far from offering unsecured cc for bad credit. who is right and who is wrong? maybe someone finally suggests an objective point of view?!
